Today’s suburban reality finds its origin in the pastoral dream of finding a homestead in the countryside. The current model of subdivision is the fast-food version of this dream, the typology commonly referred to with disdain as “cookie cutter” or “McMansion design”. Without design influence in the construction of these homes, we start to see them as a continuation of the same mediocrity. This idea; backed up by the Gestalt laws related to perception: the Law of Continuity illustrates why so many a time, we find ourselves lost in suburbia, only able to navigate by address or G.P.S. instead of place and vision.
